Dunbar is a charming town on a beautiful stretch of the East Lothian coastline. Over the course of many centuries during its early history, Dunbar was at the heart of power struggles between Picts, Romans, Vikings, Scots, English and Northumbrians. In more peaceful Edwardian times, it became known as the 'bright and breezy burgh' – a thriving hub of fishing and farming, and a sunny spot for seaside holidays and golfing breaks.

One of the finest walks in Scotland is through the John Muir country park, named after the trailblazing explorer and naturalist born in the town in 1838. He left with his family at the age of 11 to settle in the USA, where he grew up to be the founder of the country’s national parks.

The town has excellent shopping and a wide range of social and recreational facilities including a leisure centre and pool. The beach at Belhaven Bay, the John Muir Country Park, East Links Farm and the Lammermuir Hills are all within easy reach. The main line railway station in Dunbar is only a five minute walk and provides a fast commuter service to Edinburgh and an inter-city link to London Kings Cross. In addition there is easy access to the A1 offering a rapid road link to Edinburgh.
